It’s Over, No More 10 Cent Fixed Bids On Yahoo

February 27, 2008 on 11:42 pm | In yahoo | No Comments

Minimum bids for a number of Sponsored Search keywords will no longer be fixed at $.10 for Yahoo Search Marketing advertisers. The new minimum bids can be lower or higher than $.10. Content Match minimum bids currently however will remain at $.10.

According to the YSM weblog post on the minimum bids subject, the amount set as the minimum bid on a keyword in Sponsored Search can vary depending on multiple factors, such as the relevance of your keywords (as measured by the quality of the ads associated with them), and the number of bidders and bid amounts in the particular keyword market. Advertisers, are you listening? You’ll now have to meet a “reserve price”.

As you can imagine, some advertisers are none too pleased with the Google-esque pricing model. One comment on the post sums up the thoughts of a few advertisers - “This is terrible, I’m going back to Google.

Virus Alert Postcard Virus

February 24, 2008 on 1:13 pm | In virus alert | 2 Comments

A friend of mine sent this to me…I have received ecards from people I don’t know, so I don’t open them, because I know its spam or worse. This virus is probably similar to the e-postcard outbreak in 2004 and 2006. FYI…
***********************************************************************************^^

Dear all:

I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus!

I checked snopes.com , and it is for real!!

Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!

You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled ‘POSTCARD,’ regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which ‘burns’ the whole hard disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called‘ POSTCARD,’ even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it.! Shut down your computer immediately.

This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.

Is Sam’s Club Entering Search Engine Market?

February 22, 2008 on 2:39 am | In Uncategorized | 2 Comments

There is some chatter online that Sam’s Club may be going into the search engine business. Sam’s will hit the local search market area agressively. It’s rumored they have entered into a partnership with Innuity, the software company that recently sold its former domain name Vista, to online premium business card maker Vistaprint.com for $1.25 million.

For $25 a month, Innuity submits your site to the local search engines; each business is responsible with keeping their company information up to date. Once a revision is made Innuity makes sure it updates with the various search engines.

Some may think Sam’s doesn’t belong in the SEO world. Maybe. Just remind yourself that main stream society isn’t as internet savvy as many of you are. Sam’s is bringing the search engine directly into their customers’ lives. This could be a good thing.

A concern for Google, et al, would be that now the search engine is mainstream, and those newly educated users won’t know the difference between local search engines and Yahoo. There may not be such hard differentiators anymore, and a merger between any of the major search engines may not be that important anymore.

Blogging: A Real Work At Home Job

February 20, 2008 on 12:58 am | In WordTracker | 2 Comments

Making money from blogging is simple, if you follow the rules. You’ll know you’re following the rules when you start to see an increase in commissions. Keyword optimization is a continuous process, however drilling down your keywords can help uncover new niches and blog topics.

Here is a little tidbit I picked up while researching keywords for a new blog.

In the past 9 months my bloghology has grown. Keyword research played a heavy role in the launch of my new blog, “Celebrity News Dot Com.” When you take the free trial from Wordtracker; you’ll get the best results for keywords. Choosing a common word is the best way to start when looking for the best keywords. (see below snapshot)

Once you get your keywords, click on the little shovel to the right of your results in Wordtracker. This is known as ‘Keyword Universe.’ Using this tool allows you to dig deeper into other related, relevant keywords. Not only does it keep your site keyword rich when you use them, it offers up hundreds of niche topics you may not have been aware of. This drilling down into ‘Keyword Universe’ assures you don’t run out of keywords too soon.

(keyword universe sample)

Continue to monitor your keywords looking for these clues:

• Keywords that bring good traffic and good conversions
(these are the words people use when they are in buying mode)

• Keywords that bring you good traffic but poor conversions
(these are the words people use when they are in research
mode)

•Keywords that bring low traffic but great conversions
(these are the words that represent buying behavior in niche
markets).

Done properly, keyword optimization will bring lots of organic traffic. Again, another screw in the wheel of blog marketing and optimization. Another step you take towards financial freedom.

But, many of us fight for more time to do all the things we need to do to make a substantial income from blogging. We wish we had more hours in the day to maximize our search engine techniques for our blogs. If I had more time, I would polish it like the car of my dreams, the Audi RS8.

However, I don’t. Therefore, my goal of working completely from home, on my blog will take more time. That’s fine, the time part that is. The extra time is needed for reading, researching and testing different methods. Not changing how my blog is optimized for the search engines, but changing the method in which my blogs are optimized. Continually tweaking the programs and campaigns looking for the one that works, the one that creates a prosperous income from home.

Yahoo + Microsoft Does Not Equal Google

February 16, 2008 on 3:10 pm | In yahoo | No Comments

Even if Microsoft is successful in their takeover of Yahoo, their combined market share would still fall short of Google. Right now, 23% of searchers use Yahoo and 10% utilize MSN; Google commands 58%. In using the different search engines I found major differences.

MSN Search does not have the same user friendly feel of Google. With Google you can find anything using everyday words; while searching on MSN can leave a user with incomplete and indirect information.

Yahoo is about the closest thing to be compared to the manner in which information is searched for that mimics Google.

Since the announcement of the merger, Google has issued a public statement with concerns of anti-trust behavior by the two. Google is going to be self-serving in the interest of maintaining and protecting their market share.

But, competition could provide additional opportunities for advertisers. Not withstanding similar corporate cultural environments. Experts believe a merger could further damage Google’s low penetration of the B2B market. Further evidence that Google speaks to the everyday consumer that being the key differentiator between Google and MSN.

Yahoo search more closely mirrors Google’s search system. While MSN has a business skew, a pairing with Yahoo could give MSN the ability to ride the tailwind of Yahoo, creating an enviable foe for Google.

Another hidden advantage for the #2 and #3 SE’s- MSN and Yahoo have the respect and confidence of the top ad networks in the world. These relationships have taken years to build, something Google lacks.

It’s a well known fact that competition improves a product. Google seems to be focused on remaining in front of the curve that predicts the behaviors of its users, and maintaining satisfaction from them. The friendly user-bility of Google may be the thing that sets them apart.

Photobucket

I’ve never done this before, and I am hoping it will work.

*Start Copy Here*

You do not have to be tagged to play along. This game is simple and so are the rules.

1. Copy from *Start Copy Here* through *End Copy Here*

2. Add your site(s) to the list. Just be sure to post at each site you add.

3. Tag or don’t tag, your choice, however, the more tags you create the bigger the list will grow.

4. Let me know your blog’s name and url by leaving me a comment. I will add you to the master list - this is done by contacting http://www.platinumpicks.blogspot.com/ which is a stock picking site owned by me, Nick Darpino/ http://www.dailydaytrades.com/

5. Come back and copy the master list back to your site, often. This process will allow late-comers to get as much link benefit as the first ones in.

Note: In order to be included on this master list you need to first post the “Big Bang” on the site(s) that you want included. Add your site at the end of the list. Then leave me a comment that you have done so.
Also, I encourage everyone who is on this list to double check the link and make sure it correctly points back to your site. If there are any issues please let me know and I will immediately make the correction.

Hint: when you copy this list, make sure that you paste into the “Compose” mode of your post, so that you maintain all the links.

This list should grow indefinitely. I highly recommend that every participant schedules a weekly update. That way maximum linkage will be derived for every participant and this process will keep this list growing. I also recommend that you ping Technorati after each update. That will insure maximum benefit for everyone.

WordPress Users: Due to the size of this list and the number of links it possesses, anyone using the WordPress platform, must break the list into two segments and post them in two separate posts. This is due to WordPress restrictions. Apparently we have hit WordPress right in its limits. (I knew there was a reason I stuck with Blogger.)

I want to thank everyone who has given me their suggestions on how to make the instructions clearer. As you can see, I have incorporated the suggestions into both the instructions and the notes that follow the list.

TO EVERYONE WHO LEAVES ME A COMMENT ABOUT JOINING THE “BIG BANG” …….. YOU WILL BE ADDED AS SOON AS I SEE YOUR COMMENT. IF THERE IS A PROBLEM I WILL LEAVE YOU A COMMENT ON YOUR SITE.

THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING, BUT PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT I SIMPLY CANNOT RESPOND TO EVERYONE’S COMMENTS HERE.

Widgets And The Branding Of A Blog

February 13, 2008 on 1:02 am | In widgets | No Comments

In everyday business you see different brands. Coca-Cola, AT&T, Apple. You get the drift. There are visual images that come to mind when someone says those names or when you read them. You can literally see their brand. So, that being said, branding is important. It’s important to the big boys of the business world and to you, the blogger.

That’s why I’m recommending WidgetBox. It’s fun, it makes blogging even more fun, and it brands your product. Oh, and did I mention, it’s also a way to pick up more subscribers without even asking! That’s right. Within minutes of creating my widget (they’re easy to do, even a cave blogger like me can do it!), I had 14 subscribers for this blog, and 1 for Weird Offbeat News and Videos. If you click below you can get this 8 Ball Widget. Go ahead, ask it anything!

Another important attribute of this widget branding and sharing is that it is viral. The 14 people that subscribed to my widget, now show that widget on their blog. Their visitors, of course will see it, and click through right back to this blog! Talk about a cool way to get back links!

You can personalize your widget anyway you please. But best of all, it’s free, it’s not an affiliate program, just a cool way to promote your blog.

It’s not too late to order from 1-800 Flowers, the online florist.

There are many beautiful floral arrangements and gifts that can be delivered in many cases the same day. Even if you’re nowhere near your computer, 1-800 Flowers now takes orders on your internet enabled cell phone. Sounds like something I would need, seeing that I have a tendency to do things at the last minute. Valentines day deliveryis available for last minute shoppers and for those who wake in the middle of the night in a cold sweat trying to create a memorable impression.

1-800 Flowers solves my Valentine’s Day dilemma, what about yours?

Feed Each Other Could Increase Stumbles, Subscribers

February 10, 2008 on 4:38 pm | In stumble upon | 4 Comments

While blog surfing this morning, I read robdogg’s series on increasing stumbles. The article spoke to the benefits of SU, which we all know. However, he had some time saving advice I’d like to pass along to everyone.

The next time you feel like stumbling or submitting an article to your friends to stumble, use Feed Each Other. Below is the widget I use to keep me informed what my friends are doing.

Feed Each Other allows you to gather all your friends’ RSS Feeds in one place, so you can go to one site and share theirs. Now to make this work, the friends you add to Feed Each Other should hopefully have reviewed your page(s) at some point. There is no benefit to include those who have not.

Once you have copied the RSS Feeds of your favorite stumblers and pasted them into the add subscription field on Feed Each Other, you can then share those feeds by simply clicking a button to share with other like minded members.

Not only will you save time, you will probably pick up more subscribers in the process.

I just started adding my friends today. I have 44 friends in SU and sometimes it gets to be time consuming when I ask them to stumble something for me.

Using Feed Each Other is a way for each and every one of us in this group to get stumbles and feeds.

Here is the link, make sure we add each other as friends, and upload the link for the feed on SU–the one that says +Add to Feed Each OtherAddThis Social Bookmark ButtonStumbleUpon My StumbleUpon Page

Two More Blog Making Money Opportunities

February 9, 2008 on 4:41 pm | In Uncategorized | 2 Comments

I’ve said this before, thanks to EntreCard and BlogCatalog, I’ve found another golden nugget to make money from my blog.

Most bloggers know about or use PayPerPost or Sponsored Reviews. I use both of them, but I find PayPerPost advertisers more efficient with payment than Sponsored Reviews. As I was blog hopping at 3AM this morning, I saw a link on the page for two more Pay Per Blog opportunities.

Buy Blog Reviews (BBR) and SnapBomb (SB) are just like PayPerPost and Sponsored Reviews. You register, wait for your blog to be approved, then you are allowed to search for opportunities. SnapBomb is creating a buzz in blog marketing, probably because of its ease of acceptance.

Buy Blog Reviews, once you apply, takes 72 hours to approve your blog. I’m in the waiting period right now, and as soon as the green light is given, I’ll give it a test run. Oh, and you can sign up affiliates with BBR too.

Here is a blurb from their site:

Our Affiliate program is online and now you can earn more cash by referring more bloggers and advertisers to our site. We pay out 15% of total money spent on first transaction of advertisers or bloggers. Like if you refer an Advertiser and if he purchases reviews worth $500, we’ll pay you $75. If you refer a Blogger and when he gets his first order we pay you 15% of the money spent.”

That’s a plus. BBR pays every 60 days, a definite thing to consider.

However, SB simply sent a verification link to my email and I was up and running.

SB has an advantage over BBR as far as account activation goes. It’s always a benefit to get going in making money from posts. For example, I use Saturdays as the day to mix and mingle with my friends from the groups I belong to. If BBR approval was instant, then I could post, make money and move on.

The amount you will be paid per post is based upon your Google PageRank. Teasa’s Blog Marketing Tips Blog is a PR1, so for each of my posts I am paid 4.94 per post.

On Weird Funny Offbeat News Blog, it’s a PR3 and the payment is significantly higher - 29.44 per post.

SB gives you 12 hours to complete your post and payment is sent via PayPal every 15 days. Oh, did I mention this is a new site? They just opened shop in December ‘07.

Here is a blurb about how they pay their affiliates:

“Our Affiliate program is online and now you can earn more cash by referring more bloggers and advertisers to our site. We pay out 15% of total money spent on first transaction of advertisers or bloggers. Like if you refer an Advertiser and if he purchases reviews worth $500, we’ll pay you $75. If you refer a Blogger and when he gets his first order we pay you 15% of the money spent.”

I’ll let you know when I make my first payment from Snapbomb as well as keep you informed on which two of these companies I’ll favor.
