10 Tips To Higher Search Engine Rankings

I WANT TO BE AT THE TOP OF THE SEARCH ENGINE RANKINGS!
(that’s what I scream in my dreams)
More Traffic, and more traffic, and even more traffic! The quest to obtain it can be daunting and challenging at the same time. And just when I am on the edge of discouragement, I find a golden rope to hold onto. (Like seeing a local teen make a million bucks online working in her basement!) This rope lifts me up another step – one step closer to the treasure, more website traffic.

I’m not going to sugarcoat it, but sometimes it’s difficult to stay motivated. Driving lots of traffic to my website/blog is the holy grail of internet marketing. Get traffic, and you’ll make money online. It’s that simple.

But, getting good quality traffic requires good quality content, and nothing else. It’s the online internet marketer’s dream. Every home based business owner spends hours upon hours trying to figure out the keys to search engine optimization and marketing. Once mastered, the secrets of SEO will be revealed and more website traffic will be the reward. However, the trick is to follow those secrets to the letter. If we do, then we will get the desired effect.

Most people don’t have the patience to follow it through, and sometimes I am just like most of you. That is why I haven’t made enough money consistently on the web to quit my day job.

But, today is different. I am going to follow the 10 steps I have outlined below. In a few weeks, if I do it correctly, should begin to make a difference in my bottom line. Ok, ready? Here are the 10 steps to proper SEO:

1. Identify your competition and find out their most common keywords.
2. Use quality link building. You’ll be penalized by the SE Gods (Google, Yahoo and MSN) if you use bad links.
3. Do a keyword analysis on the competition. Use Wordtracker, it’s free.
4. Do steps 1-3 again, just to make sure you did them the first time.
5. Identify your keywords. Use reverse keyword tactics by looking at keywords that you are not using and don’t have high rankings to discover new niches that your competition is not using.
6. Check out your website’s mechanics. Go behind the scenes and make sure your title and meta tags give an accurate description of what you are trying to offer on your site.
7. Keyword Density. Use them but don’t overuse your keywords. The search engines are now looking at the natural flow of sentences and paragraphs.
8. Submit your website to the major search engines in a timely manner. It’s recommended that you submit a few pages a day to a couple of the major SE’s, not everyday.
9. Find out how your site is indexed. Do this by going to Google, Yahoo or MSN and type in your keywords or phrase. If you find your URL, then you know you are indexed.
10. Keep fine tuning your efforts. SEO is like a woman’s work: it’s never done.
